A brief introduction of the Key Laboratory of Tropical Biological Resources
of the Ministry of Education, Hainan University, China

The Key Laboratory of Tropical Biological Resources of the Ministry of Education of China (KLTBR) is the largest public innovation research base in Hainan University. KLTBR was established in 2005, which was approved for operation by Chinese Ministry of Education. It was created to fulfill the requirements of housing state-of-the-art facilities in molecular biology, pharmacology, biochemistry and medicinal chemistry maintained by well-trained staff. It is guided by a team of highly qualified scientists and offers excellent facilities for internal and external users. Prof. Sulan Luo is the director of KLTBR. The primary aim of the research conducted at KLTBR is to identify and characterize biological molecules that have relevant clinical, medical or industrial applications from rich biological resources of tropical ocean and land of China.

KLTBR is very well equipped to conduct experiments on biology, chemistry and pharmacology research fields, including Automatic Peptide Synthesis Systems, Patch-clamps, Oocyte clamp station, Purification of proteins system, DNA Genetic Analyzer, Electrophoresis system, FluorChem Imaging System, Freeze Dryer, Full Automatic Fermentor, Automatic Microbial Identification System Moduie, Analgesia Meter and Animal care system, Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometer (LC-MS),  Polycrystalline X-ray Diffractometer, various HPLC, Nutrition catena production, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance(NMR) spectrometers, and Electron Microscopy etc..

Following the nation’s policy on promoting fundamental scientific research and KLTBR’s motto “learning, improving, innovating, and cooperating”, the lab is committed to establishing a fully-functional, well-managed, highly-efficient, and open research platform and to providing professional services to all researchers. KLTBR is dedicated to the idea of open-access to all research institutions and continues to promote academic exchanges and strengthen cooperation ties with domestic and international institutions.

Hainan University is the best university in Hainan province, which was founded in 1958. As one of the national "211 Project" comprehensive universities accredited by the Ministry of Education of People's Republic of China, Hainan University is striving to become one of the best universities in China as well as in the world. The university main campus is located on Haidian Island of Haikou, the capital city of Hainan Province. The Haidian Campus is nestled along the coast of the South China Sea. The fragrant tropical flora help create a beautiful tropical environment and it is an ideal place for learning, teaching and research. The university has a high-level faculty of 1,750, including over 1000 professors and associate professors, and over 40,000 students, including undergraduates, postgraduates and Ph.D. students. It offers 10 categories of disciplines in natural sciences, Pharmacy,  agriculture, engineering, philosophy, economics, law, literature, art and management. Hainan University is actively carrying out its open teaching and research strategy and striving to develop an all-round, multilevel, and transregional new vista for academic exchange and cooperation with the world at large.

We have established closely intercollegiate and cooperative academic research relationship with more than 90 good universities of 30 countries and regions, including the USA, the UK, Australia, Canada, France, Singapore, Russia, and German etc. Hainan University extends warmest welcome to international scientists and students who wish to visit, work and study at HU, especially supports organizing the world high quality academic congress in Haikou, such as the next International Society on Toxinology World Congress (IST 2017 Haikou), which is scheduled for October 24-30, 2017, in Haikou, Hainan, China.
